Beyond the Beach Clubs

Pedasa

A Lelegian hill settlement above the peninsula, reached on foot.

FreeHalf a day with the walkSpring and autumn β€” not midsummer

Why do it?

One of the oldest settlements on the peninsula, pre-dating Greek Halicarnassus, on a hilltop with walls, cisterns and a long view. It is a walk-up site rather than a monument, which is most of its appeal.

The Smileys Take

This is a walk with ruins at the end, not a monument with a car park. Proper shoes, more water than you think, and not in August. What you get for it is the oldest thing on the peninsula and, most days, nobody else up there.

Good to know

  • Proper shoes and water; the last stretch is a trail, not a path.
  • Little to no shade β€” avoid the middle of a summer day.

Do it with people

The Smileys community does things like this every week β€” organized events, spontaneous hangouts, and visitors looking for company.
