Alsancak is where Izmir goes out: the streets off Kฤฑbrฤฑs ลehitleri Caddesi are packed with bars, meyhanes, and live music venues, all close enough together that the night plans itself as you walk. Izmir's social scene is famously the most relaxed in Turkey โ mixed crowds, low pretension, tables that talk to each other โ and Alsancak after dark is where a newcomer feels that first.

Start slow with meze and rakฤฑ or a glass of wine at a meyhane, then drift into the side lanes and follow the music. It's an easy district to go out in alone โ bar seating is sociable and nobody minds a stranger โ which also makes it our default territory for Smileys evenings.
