Go at opening time (9am) or in the last hour before closing. The midday crowds are genuinely overwhelming. Dress modestly.

Topkapı PalaceMust Visit

The nerve centre of the Ottoman Empire for 400 years. The Treasury and the Harem are the unmissable sections.

·Sultanahmet is walkable from Eminönü and 10 minutes by tram (T1 line) from Karaköy.
·The area is almost entirely tourist-facing — prices for food and services are significantly higher than elsewhere in Istanbul.
·The best time to visit the major monuments is early morning (before 10am) or late afternoon (after 4pm).
·Combine Sultanahmet with a walk down to Cankurtaran and the sea walls for a much quieter Istanbul experience.
