Smileys Is Not a Dating App ✋
Smileys was created to help people connect in real life — to make friends, discover activities, find travel companions, expand their networks, and become part of a community. It is not a dating service, and we have a zero-tolerance policy toward members who use Smileys to pursue dates or romantic or sexual partners.

Smileys Is Not a Dating App
A Message to Everyone Who Joins Smileys
Welcome to Smileys.
If you are reading this, you are probably here because you want to meet people, get out of the house, discover your city, try something new, or simply have a more active social life.
That’s exactly what Smileys was created for.
We bring together people from different countries, cultures, backgrounds, professions, and generations. Some are new to the city. Some have lived here for years. Some are traveling. Some work remotely. Some are building businesses. Others simply want to make new friends.
What brings everyone together is the desire to connect in real life.
And because community only works when people feel comfortable, respected, and safe, there is something we want to make absolutely clear from the beginning:
Smileys is not a dating app.
This is not about telling people who they can or cannot like. It is about making sure that nobody joins a Smileys event feeling that they are entering a room full of people looking for someone to date.
You should be able to come to a Smileys event simply to have fun without worrying about being approached, pursued, pressured, or treated as someone’s potential romantic target.
Come for the community. Come for the experiences. Come to meet people.
The rest of this article explains what that means and what we expect from everyone who becomes part of Smileys.
Come for the Community. Stay for the Connections.
Smileys is a social community built around real-life connections, friendships, activities, and shared experiences.
It is for expats, digital nomads, travelers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and locals who want to meet people, discover new interests, expand their social and professional networks, and become part of an active community.
Smileys is about getting people off their phones and into real life.
Who Is Smileys For?
People join Smileys to:
Make genuine friendships
Build a social circle in a new city
Meet people from different cultures
Find travel buddies
Discover hobbies and activities
Attend events and social gatherings
Expand professional networks
Connect with locals, expats, travelers, and digital nomads
You might come to Smileys and leave with five new friends, a travel partner, a business connection, a new hobby, or simply a great memory.
That’s what Smileys is about.
🚫 Smileys Is Not a Dating App
Let’s be clear.
Smileys is not a dating platform.
There are no swipes, matches, dating profiles, or matchmaking services.
Our events and groups exist so people can socialize, participate, learn, explore, and have fun together.
You are welcome to meet new people. You are welcome to make friends. You are welcome to build genuine connections.
But Smileys should never be treated as a pool of potential dates.
Come for the Community, Not for a Target
Don’t walk into a Smileys event thinking:
“Who can I get a date with tonight?”
Walk in thinking:
“Who can I meet? What can I discover? What can we do together?”
That difference matters.
People should be able to attend a Smileys event without feeling that they are being watched, evaluated, approached, or pursued as potential romantic partners.
Everyone deserves to feel comfortable being themselves.
Zero Tolerance for Dating Behavior
Smileys has a zero-tolerance policy toward members who use the community primarily to find romantic or sexual partners.
This includes:
Hitting on members at events
Unwanted flirting or sexual advances
Repeatedly asking someone out
Sending unwanted private messages
Using member information to pursue someone romantically
Collecting phone numbers or social media accounts for dating purposes
Making someone uncomfortable through persistent attention
Joining events primarily to meet potential dates
Using “friendship” as a pretext for romantic or sexual approaches
Continuing to pursue someone after they have shown or stated that they are not interested
If you are using Smileys as a dating service, Smileys is not the community for you.
Members may be removed from an event, group, or the entire Smileys community without prior warning.
Respect a “No”
This should never be complicated.
If someone says they are not interested, respect it immediately.
No repeated messages.
No repeated invitations.
No trying to change their mind.
No asking their friends to intervene.
No approaching them again and again at events.
One “no” is enough.
Silence, lack of response, walking away, or avoiding further interaction should also be respected.
Respect Personal Boundaries
Someone being friendly does not mean they are interested.
Someone talking to you does not mean they want a date.
Someone attending an event does not mean they are looking for a relationship.
Someone giving you their social media does not automatically mean they are interested romantically.
A conversation is a conversation. A friendship is a friendship.
Respect the difference.
What About Romance?
Of course, people sometimes meet naturally through social communities.
If two adults independently develop a mutual interest, that is their personal business.
Smileys does not police genuine relationships between consenting adults.
The distinction is simple:
Mutual connection is welcome. Dating with an agenda is not.
The problem is not two people naturally connecting.
The problem is joining Smileys specifically to search for romantic or sexual opportunities or making other members feel like targets.
No Misuse of Member Information
Member profiles, phone numbers, social media accounts, and other personal information shared through Smileys are not dating resources.
Do not collect someone’s contact information at an event and then use it to repeatedly pursue them.
Do not use Smileys groups to identify people you want to approach romantically.
Do not pass someone’s contact details to someone else without permission.
Respect people’s privacy and boundaries.
If Someone Makes You Uncomfortable
If another member behaves inappropriately, repeatedly contacts you, ignores your boundaries, or makes you uncomfortable, tell a Smileys host or admin.
You do not have to deal with it alone.
We take these reports seriously and may speak with the people involved, review the situation, restrict participation, or remove a member from the community.
Your comfort matters.
Be Part of the Culture
Smileys works because people trust that they can come to an event and simply be themselves.
Go sailing.
Join a hike.
Have dinner.
Learn a language.
Play sports.
Attend a workshop.
Join a picnic.
Dance.
Travel.
Talk.
Laugh.
Meet people you would never have met otherwise.
You never know who you will meet or what connection might come from it.
But come with an open mind — not a dating agenda.
Community First
Smileys is about people, experiences, friendships, and community.
Not swiping.
Not matching.
Not hunting.
Not chasing.
Real people. Real activities. Real connections.
Respect the community.
Respect people’s boundaries.
Look after each other.
Smileys is a community, not a dating app.
Make life less painful. More smile.
