In Youngr’s live performances, a song can take shape in real time. He records a beat, riff or vocal phrase, lets it repeat, then adds new parts over it. Layer by layer, he builds a fuller arrangement on stage. This live-looping approach helped introduce him to a global audience, and it will be at the centre of his Istanbul concert on Saturday, October 17.

Youngr is the stage name of Dario Darnell, a singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His reworking of The Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” helped bring him to a wider audience. To hear one of his original songs, try “Out of My System”.

His sound brings together electronic music, indie-pop and dance, while his live interpretations have drawn on songs by artists including Daft Punk, Coldplay, Jamiroquai and Linkin Park. Babylon’s event announcement describes a high-energy set built around multi-layered live loops and original productions. The setlist has not been announced, so treat those artists as a guide to his reworkings rather than a promise of what will be played.

Darnell grew up around music. His father, August Darnell, is known as Kid Creole, and Dario spent childhood summers accompanying him on tour. Before launching Youngr, he played in bands with his brother and worked across different instruments, experience that now feeds into his solo performances.
