Walk the Bosphorus: Bebek to Rumeli Hisarı

The prettiest 20 minutes of flat walking in Istanbul, ending at a fortress.

Why do it?

Waterfront the whole way: fishermen, yalıs, absurd yachts, and the Bosphorus narrowing until a 15th-century fortress rises straight out of the shore. It's the walk to take visitors on their first day.

Start in Bebek with a coffee, walk north, and take the bus back instead of retracing. If you have the legs, Arnavutköy → Bebek → Rumeli Hisarı strings together the three prettiest Bosphorus villages in one afternoon.

The route

Bebek Park → waterfront promenade → Rumeli Hisarı village (about 20 minutes at a stroll)
The fortress courtyard is worth the ticket — check for summer concerts
Extend south to Arnavutköy's wooden mansions for the full set

Good to know

Buses along the coast road (22, 25E) run you back to Beşiktaş
Weekend afternoons are busy; weekday mornings feel private
Boğaziçi University's campus sits just above the fortress — one of the city's best viewpoints
