Walk through Hadrian's Gate
A Roman triple arch from the 130s AD, still the front door between the modern city and the old town.
Why do it?
Built for the emperor Hadrian's visit nearly nineteen centuries ago, the three marble arches of Üçkapılar still stand in the old city walls on Atatürk Caddesi — and they're not roped off in a site somewhere, they're a working entrance. The old Roman road level sits below today's street, grooved by centuries of cart wheels, and you walk over it on your way into Kaleiçi. Few cities let you commute through antiquity.
