Emergency Numbers in Türkiye: Call 112 and Other Numbers Worth Saving

One number: 112

For any immediate emergency, call 112. It is Türkiye’s nationwide number for:

Ambulance and medical emergencies
Police
Fire
Gendarmerie
Coast guard
Forest fires
Disaster response

Calls are free from mobiles and landlines. The official 112 service says you can call even from a phone without a SIM card.

If you cannot speak, you can send an SMS to 112. Include your location or full address, what has happened, and any important details. Calling is faster and more reliable whenever you can speak; use SMS when you cannot.

Save 112 now. In an emergency, the first essential detail is where you are: street, building number, neighbourhood, landmark, or live location.

In a real emergency

Do not spend time searching for the “right” number. If there is immediate danger to life, safety or property, call 112.

If possible, share your live location, show the operator your address, and keep your phone line free for a callback.

If you do not speak Turkish

Stay on the line and say “English.” The 112 service provides support in English, German, Arabic and Russian.

For help communicating in a medical setting, the Ministry of Health’s international patient support line is 0850 288 38 38. It operates 24 hours a day in Arabic, Russian, English, French, Persian and German. In an immediate emergency, call 112 first.

Other numbers worth saving

114 — National Poison Consultation Centre (UZEM)

Call 114 for advice about suspected poisoning, including medicines, household chemicals, mushrooms, plants, or bites and stings. The line operates 24/7.

If someone is unconscious, having a seizure, struggling to breathe, or otherwise in immediate danger, call 112 first.

157 — YİMER, the Foreigners Communication Centre

YİMER is run by the Presidency of Migration Management. Its general information service operates on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00; its emergency-help and reporting line operates 24/7.

It currently provides service in Turkish, English, Russian, Arabic and Persian. From outside Türkiye, call +90 312 157 11 22. It also offers web chat and WhatsApp at +90 312 422 04 00.

YİMER is useful for immigration-related information and reporting, but it is not a substitute for 112 when there is immediate danger.

187 — natural-gas emergency line

If you smell gas, call 187, the natural-gas emergency line. In Istanbul, this is handled by İGDAŞ.

If safe, leave the area and avoid flames, smoking, and operating electrical switches. If there is an immediate threat to life, call 112.

175 — consumer advice

Alo 175 is the Ministry of Trade’s consumer advice line. It can explain your options and direct you to the appropriate route for a consumer dispute. It is not an emergency service.

Finding an on-duty pharmacy: nöbetçi eczane

Outside ordinary hours, pharmacies take turns staying open. These are called nöbetçi eczane—on-duty pharmacies.

Use the national e-Devlet on-duty pharmacy search and select your province and district. You can use it without logging in.

In Istanbul, the Istanbul Chamber of Pharmacists also publishes a live on-duty pharmacy list.

Lost or stolen passport

If your passport is stolen, report the theft to the police and ask for a report copy or reference number. Contact your embassy or consulate as soon as possible; it can issue a replacement passport or emergency travel document.

A passport reported as lost or stolen may no longer be valid, even if it later turns up. Do not travel on it unless the issuing authority confirms that you can use it.

If you also lose your residence-permit card, contact the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for current replacement requirements.

Earthquakes: know your assembly area

Türkiye is earthquake-prone. Find your nearest designated emergency assembly area—acil toplanma alanı—before you need it.

Use AFAD’s e-Devlet assembly-area search to find the closest site. You will need an e-Devlet account.

For digital emergency reporting, use the current HAYAT 112 Acil app. It supports location-enabled reports and is available for Android and iPhone. Set it up before an emergency, and check that your e-Devlet credentials work with it. It does not replace calling 112 when you can make a voice call.
