Escape Istanbul

Breathe in Belgrad Forest

5,000 hectares of oak and beech where Istanbul goes to remember what quiet sounds like.

Free-ishHalf dayWeekday mornings are empty; autumn is spectacular

Why do it?

Twenty minutes past the metro's end, the city simply stops: running loops around reservoirs, picnic clearings under century-old trees, and air that tastes different. It's the fastest complete exit Istanbul offers without a ferry.

The Smileys Take

Take the M2 to Hacıosman, then a short taxi — it's not walkable from the station. Go on a weekday if you can; Sunday picnic crowds are their own kind of lovely chaos, but they're not quiet.

Good to know

  • The main loop trails are flat, marked, and runnable
  • Bring water and snacks — facilities inside are sparse
  • Nearby Göktürk village makes a good post-forest café stop
  • Mobile signal drops in the deep sections; download an offline map
